Role Overview:

As part of the Advanced Materials division, Huntsman is looking for an Organic Synthesis Chemist who will join our Global Innovation Team. The position is a full-time contract based in our Advanced Materials European HQ in Basel, Switzerland.

Role Responsibilities:   

As an Organic Synthesis Chemist you will:

  • Identify, develop, and deliver innovative solutions to business challenges and ensure successful delivery of projects around specialty components.

  • Design and execute sound experimental plans to deliver building blocks that will expand our material toolbox in the area of E-mobility applications.

  • Synthesize and perform scale-up of new reactive monomers and building blocks.

  • Contribute to the development of a science-driven innovation culture within the global organization.

  • Support the definition and execution of innovation roadmaps by integrating molecular design into product requirements and specifications.

  • Proactively look for opportunities to gain IP and create commercial advantage.

  • Scientific and technical coaching of lab technicians and colleagues in organic chemistry.

  • Generate technical reports based on experimental results and present to stakeholders across the global organization.

  • Ensure full compliance with safety, health, and environmental guidelines according to site and company standards.

Experience and Competencies:   

We are looking for experienced candidates with excellent communication skills and a solution focused approach.  

  

What we are looking for: 

  • MSc. Or Ph.D. in Chemistry with relevant experience in organic synthesis and knowledge of polymer chemistry.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an industrial or academic R&D environment with a proven track record in moving from idea to experimental design to develop innovative organic materials.

  • Deep understanding of organic reaction mechanisms and the structure-property relationship in polymeric materials.

  • Team player with good interpersonal, communication and project management skills.

  • Natural leader with an entrepreneurial mindset, self-driven and highly motivated.

  • Advanced knowledge of scientific software, electronic lab journal and Office tools.

  • Effective oral and written English skills.
